Dehradun to Mukteshwar Taxi Service

345 km  |  8–9 hours  |  one-way drop or round trip
2,300 m ridge 350 km peak panorama Orchards & the temple rock

Quick answer: Mukteshwar is about 345 km from Dehradun and takes 8 to 9 hours, the Nainital road to Bhowali and then 30 km along the ridge. It is a village at 2,300 m built around a Shiva temple and the old veterinary institute, with apple and plum orchards on the slopes and, from the temple rock, a 350 km sweep of peaks from Nanda Devi to the Nepal border. Quiet, cold, and worth the last hour. Fares depend on vehicle and whether you need a one-way drop or a round trip — the table below is live from our rate desk. Call 7830211223 to confirm.

The last hour is the reason

Mukteshwar is 50 km beyond Nainital in distance and a century behind it in pace. The British built a veterinary research institute here in 1893 because it was high, cold and empty, and it still is. The Mukteshwar Dham temple sits on the highest rock, and from Chauli ki Jali beside it, the cliff drops into the valley and the view runs from Nanda Devi across to Panchachuli. In October it is clear every morning.

The drive is the Nainital drive to Bhowali, then the ridge road east through Ramgarh's orchards to Mukteshwar. The road is good but slow, and the last 30 km are where the time goes.

The road

  • Haridwar → Kashipur → Haldwani — the plains
  • Kathgodam → Bhowali — the climb, 35 km
  • Bhowali → Ramgarh → Mukteshwar — 30 km along the ridge
  • 5 am start reaches Mukteshwar mid-afternoon

At Mukteshwar

  • Mukteshwar Dham — the Shiva temple on the top rock
  • Chauli ki Jali — the cliff and the panorama
  • IVRI campus — the 1893 institute and its colonial bungalows
  • Bhalu Gaad falls — a short trek below the village

Nearby

  • Ramgarh — 20 km, the orchards, Tagore's summer house
  • Kainchi Dham — 30 km via Bhowali
  • Nainital — 50 km
  • Almora — 60 km

Booking shape

  • Two nights minimum; the drive deserves it
  • Combined with Nainital or Bhimtal on the way
  • Winter runs need chains from Bhowali after snow
  • Innova over a sedan for the ridge road with luggage

Season

October to March for the peaks, and October and November above all. December to February brings snow to the ridge and the clearest, coldest mornings; the road is cleared but chains are carried. April to June is orchard blossom then fruit, warm by day and cool at night. Monsoon hides the mountains and the ridge road slows; we allow extra time.

A 5 am start. Mukteshwar is 8 to 9 hours and the ridge road in the dark is not something we do in winter.

Dehradun to Mukteshwar taxi — questions people ask

How far is Mukteshwar from Dehradun?

About 345 km and 8 to 9 hours, via Haldwani and Bhowali, then 30 km along the ridge through Ramgarh.

What is the view like?

From Chauli ki Jali beside the temple, on a clear morning, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nanda Kot and Panchachuli in one sweep — roughly 350 km of Himalaya. October and November are the reliable months.

Is Mukteshwar cold?

It is at 2,300 m, so yes: cold nights all year, snow from late December to February. Carry warm layers even in May.

Can we combine it with Nainital?

Yes, Nainital is 50 km back toward Bhowali. A night in Nainital then two in Mukteshwar, or the other way, is the usual plan.

Does the road stay open in winter?

Yes, cleared after snow. Chains are carried from Bhowali onward in January and February, and we do the ridge in daylight.
