How much does a Dehradun to Hanol taxi cost?

Private cab fares for the Dehradun to Hanol route. Every rate below is for the whole vehicle, not per seat.

175 to 195 km 5 to 6 hrs 24/7 doorstep pickup

Included: vehicle, fuel and driver allowance. Extra: tolls, state permits, parking, and on hill routes any night halt charge. Fares are confirmed on call before pickup — nothing is added afterwards.

The Dehradun to Hanol distance is roughly 175 to 195 km, and you should plan on 5 to 6 hours of driving. Our booking engine's Google route shows 193 km. Published figures run from about 172 km to 190 km, because there are two separate roads into the Tons valley and they are not the same length.

Hanol is a small village on the eastern bank of the Tons river. People come for one reason: the Mahasu Devta temple, the most important shrine of the Jaunsar and Bawar region.

Two roads to Hanol: Chakrata or Purola

The first runs Dehradun, Vikasnagar, Chakrata, Tyuni, Hanol. It is the more direct line on the map, but the stretch beyond Chakrata is narrow and gets difficult in the rains. Hanol is about 95 km past Chakrata.

The second goes through Mussoorie, Naugaon and Purola. Travellers who have done both say it takes about the same time and the road surface is better. In the monsoon we usually pick this one.

Both roads end with the short run from Tyuni, about 15 km, along the river.

Why this is not a day trip

Ten to twelve hours of hill driving in one day is possible on paper, and miserable in practice. That is why we suggest booking Hanol as a two day round trip: drive up, darshan in the afternoon or next morning, return on day two.

Hanol itself has very little to stay in. Most visitors sleep in Chakrata or Tyuni and drive in for darshan. Tell us where you are staying and we plan the timing around the temple's opening.

Combine it with Chakrata

If you take the Chakrata road, the cantonment town makes a natural halt on the way up or back. It turns a long drive into two manageable halves and gives you a cooler night than Tyuni.

Dehradun to Hanol taxi fare

The fare table on this page shows one way and round trip prices for each car from our rate desk. For a two day trip, mention the dates when you call, because the driver's allowance and the overnight stay change the fare. Call or WhatsApp 7830211223 for a fixed quote.

Pickup and timing

We pick up anywhere in Dehradun, including ISBT, the railway station and Jolly Grant airport. For Hanol we suggest a 6 am start, so the narrow hill sections happen in daylight and you reach the Tons valley by early afternoon.

Fuel up before you leave the plains. Pumps thin out once you are deep in the hills, and our drivers fill the tank in Vikasnagar or Mussoorie depending on the road.

Who this trip suits

Hanol draws devotees of Mahasu Devta from Jaunsar, Bawar and Himachal, and travellers interested in the region's temple architecture. It is not a sightseeing loop with many stops. If you want more on the same trip, Chakrata and its viewpoints are the obvious add on, and they need an extra half day.

Monsoon caution

From July to mid September landslides affect both roads at times. In those months we check the road situation the evening before and choose the route then, rather than promising one in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which is the better road to Hanol from Dehradun?

Via Mussoorie and Purola is usually smoother, especially in the monsoon. Via Chakrata is more direct but narrow beyond Chakrata.

Where should we stay for Mahasu Devta darshan?

Hanol has very limited rooms, so most visitors stay in Chakrata or Tyuni, about 15 km away, and drive in for darshan.

Can Hanol be done as a same day round trip from Dehradun?

It is possible but means 10 to 12 hours on hill roads. A two day round trip is far more comfortable.

Getting from Dehradun to Hanol: taxi, bus or train

An honest look at the alternatives, because the right answer is not always a taxi.

OptionTimeDoor to doorLuggageWhere it fits
Private taxithe drive time on this page, leaving when you chooseYesWhatever fits the carFamilies, groups, luggage, odd hours, and anyone who wants to stop on the way
BusGMOU and UTC buses run from Rishikesh in daylight hours only, with roof-rack luggage and fixed stops. Check the current timetable.
TrainNearest railhead is Rishikesh (Yog Nagari) or Haridwar. No train goes further into the Garhwal hills; from the station it is still a full day by road.

On hill routes the taxi's real advantage is control: you decide the start time, the stops and the pace, and the same driver is there for the return.

Count the suitcases before you count the people — luggage decides the car more often than passengers do.

Swift Dzire / sedanUp to 3 adults, light bagsFine on tarmac hill roads; low on ground clearance for the last rough kilometres and tight on luggage for a multi-day trip.
Maruti ErtigaFamily of 4–5The usual pick for hill routes: more room, higher stance, still economical on fuel.
Toyota Innova / Crysta5–6 adults with luggageThe car for long hill days — comfortable over the drive time on this page, and the one to book for elderly passengers or a Char Dham-style multi-day run.
