Open all year. The Badrinath corridor traffic runs May to October, and Karnaprayag is quiet outside it. In monsoon the Alaknanda road has its usual short closures and we allow an extra hour. The Gwaldam road into Kumaon is fine in most weather but slow after snow in January and February.
A 5 or 6 am departure from Dehradun reaches Karnaprayag for a late lunch, in time to carry on to Chamoli or Gwaldam the same afternoon if you want to.
