Which Rishikesh
Rishikesh is three places. The town by the station and bus stand, which almost nobody is going to. The Laxman Jhula and Tapovan side on the west bank, where the cafes, yoga schools and most hotels are. And the Swarg Ashram side across the river, reached by a bridge or a long road round, where Parmarth Niketan and the older ashrams sit. Beyond all of them, the rafting camps line the Badrinath road toward Shivpuri and Byasi. A drop 'at Rishikesh' can be an hour wrong; a drop at the right bridge or camp is exact.
The drive is the Mussoorie descent to Dehradun, then the flat road through Doiwala and Raiwala. Two hours on a clear day.

All year. Rafting season runs September to June, with March to May and October the busiest. The Mussoorie hill road is slow on Sunday afternoons; we add an hour then. Monsoon closes rafting and can slow the descent, but the road is fine.
